About content
What Is Guitar Rigs?
Guitar Rigs is a free, open-source reference website that documents the exact gear — guitars, amplifiers, cabinets, and effects pedals — used by famous and influential guitarists throughout history.
Whether you are a beginner trying to nail a specific tone, a seasoned player looking for gear inspiration, or simply a curious fan, Guitar Rigs gives you an accurate breakdown of each artist's setup in a clean, easy-to-read format.
How Rigs Are Documented
Each rig entry is researched from primary and secondary sources:
- Official artist interviews and behind-the-scenes footage
- Gear rundowns from trusted publications (Guitar World, Premier Guitar, etc.)
- Album liner notes and studio session documentation
- Community contributions verified against multiple sources
Where possible, rigs are tied to a specific era or recording session to give additional context — a guitarist's live rig in 1980 may be quite different from their studio rig a decade later.
What's Included in Each Rig
Every rig entry contains as much of the following as we can verify:
- Guitar(s) — make, model, year, and any known modifications
- Amplifier(s) — head, combo, or stack; settings where known
- Cabinet(s) — speaker model and configuration
- Effects chain — all known pedals and rack units in signal order
- Strings & picks — gauges and brand where documented
How to Contribute
Guitar Rigs is hosted on GitHub and welcomes contributions from the community. You can help by:
- Opening an issue to suggest a new guitarist or correct an error
- Submitting a pull request with a new rig entry or additional details
- Sharing the site with other guitar enthusiasts
Please include reliable sources when submitting new information. Unsourced claims may be declined or marked as unverified.
